U.S. Patent #US 250,704 Speaking Telephone was patented in 1881 by Alexander Graham Bell. A key improvement of this new telephone design was the ability to remove the echo of the speakers voice from the earpiece. It also allowed for more than one earpiece to be attached so that two people could listen to the person on the other end of the telephone.
