This patent image was created by using U.S. Patent #US 674,203 Bifocal Eyeglasses patented in 1901 by its inventor Verner R. Gates. This is a very early example of bifocal glasses. Whereas modern bifocal glasses are all one integrated piece, this early example used a type of flip lens system where you would flip the bottom lens up when you needed to use it.
