This patent image was created by using U.S. Patent #US 869,382 Lineman's Safety Device was patented in 1907 by its inventor William F. Newton. This safety device was designed to help telegraph linemen (and others like electrical poles) safely run lines and do maintenance on the poles. It consists of a curved plate with two spikes embedded in it which is attached to a belt that is worn by the lineman. This allows the lineman to embed the spikes into the pole ensuring stability on it.
