This patent image was created by using U.S. Patent #US 2,339,013 Ship's (Marine) Steering Wheel patented in 1944 by Andrew Jackson Higgins. The patent demonstrates a design that allows the wheel to be rotated in either direction quickly and easily. Developed for the Navy, this steering wheel was meant to give small, unarmored naval craft an edge in maneuverability against enemies when engaged. While developed with the military in mind, the steering wheel is useful for any smaller maritime vessel.
