This patent image was created by using U.S. Patent #US 889,693 Air Ship patented in 1908 by Simon Lake. This innovative balloon design offered improvements in stability and safe and easy descents in the event of a failure of the steering mechanisms. It also allowed for ascents from tighter areas than more traditional balloon designs.
