This patent image was created by using U.S. Patent #US 531,555 Smoke Consuming Locomotive patented in 1894 by Francis Charles McNally. This art poster is based on this design and incorporates elements of patent US 469,620 which relates to transfer of power from steam boiler furnaces. The primary focus of this innovative design was to recirculate the smoke and ash cinders back into the combustion chamber - thus recirculating material that could be combusted again. This is a very early form a of a pollution control device on a vehicle - in this case a smokeless locomotive.
